Aligned with UK ICO & EU ePrivacy guidance
Cookies and similar technologies
FiatKey uses cookies, local storage, and comparable technologies (“cookies”) to provide a secure preview experience, remember your preferences, and—when you allow it—measure how the interface performs. We apply a consent-first approach: only strictly necessary cookies load on first visit, while all optional categories remain off until you make a choice.

1. Consent framework
We follow the guidelines issued by the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) and the European Data Protection Board. Consent is granular, revocable, and recorded with a version number and timestamp. Necessary cookies rely on legitimate interest because the site cannot function without them; every other category requires an affirmative opt-in.
If you do nothing, no optional cookies run. The banner remains accessible until you choose Accept, Reject, or Settings. You can revisit the preference center at any time via the footer link or by clearing your consent record.
2. Cookie register
The table below lists the cookies currently in use. Production rollout may expand this list to include partner-specific entries, in which case we will update the register.
| Name | Purpose | Category | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|---|
| fk_session | Maintains demo session integrity and prevents CSRF attacks. | Necessary | 24 hours |
| fk_consent | Stores your consent selections (version, timestamp, device hash). | Necessary | 12 months |
| fk_pref_theme | Remembers light/dark theme, language, and density choices. | Preferences | 6 months |
| fk_analytics | Collects aggregated interactions to prioritize feature fixes. | Analytics (optional) | 6 months |
| fk_launch_updates | Sends launch or maintenance notices on FiatKey-owned properties. | Marketing (optional) | 3 months |
3. Managing preferences
Use the “Cookie preferences” button in the footer or the banner to revisit the modal dialog. Keyboard users can press Tab to focus the banner, arrow keys to move between buttons, and Enter to confirm. When you modify settings, the `fk_consent` cookie is rewritten with the new values. If you clear browser storage, the banner will appear again on the next visit.
You may also configure your browser to block or delete cookies. Doing so might limit features such as remembering your preferred theme but will never prevent access to the core informational pages.
4. Third-party services
At this preview stage we do not embed third-party advertising or analytics tags. Once functionality expands, we may integrate regulated partners (for example, payment processors or customer support chat). Any third-party cookie will be clearly identified in the register and remain disabled until you opt in to the relevant category.
5. Similar technologies
In addition to cookies, the platform may use localStorage or sessionStorage to store short-lived UI states (e.g., which tab is open, whether you dismissed a tooltip). These values never leave your device and are purged when you reset preferences, log out, or clear browser storage.
6. Updates & contacts
We review this policy whenever we introduce a new technology or onboard a service provider. Significant changes will be announced via the banner or direct email to registered testers. Questions about this policy can be sent to privacy@fiatkey.com.
